New Release!

How does Tempranillo develop over time?

"A serious tempranillo, when we get it 'right' produces spectacular results: rich, earthy, complex, a wine of interest and so easy to drink. It may be our climate or the limestone red soil where we grow it. Temp's spice, fleshy opulence and lower acidity balance its characteristic late-palate tannins, but also ensure that it gathers complexity after some time in bottle." - Peter Leske, Winemaker

Our Black Hinge Tempranillo, when we make it, has given us a fleshy, vibrant wine which oozes red fruits: plums, dark cherries and hints of raspberry. It has the faintest aromatic echo of oak from the French barrels in which it spent just over 14 months in. Made for ageing in bottle, but we seek greater freshness on release.

So instead of a leathery wine with remnants of fruit, we release a serious Tempranillo which has seen a small amount of new-ish French oak and rested in bottle longer than normal, but still shows floral potpourri scents, hints of cola and warm spices, and the varietal signature sage and rosemary. There is some earthy richness, as well as the distinctive gritty tannins that remind us of good, high-cocoa dark chocolate. Medium weight; a faint hint of oak; interest and intrigue are paramount.
