Sangiovese makes crackingly good rosé - if your taste is for crisp, fresh, dry rosé , with bright colours, aromas and flavours (and frankly, that's where our taste is).

The variety is famous for its aromas of cherries, firm tannin, and relatively high acidity (and so in its home in Chianti, makes medium-bodied red wine that is the perfect pizza accompaniment). Those same attributes mean that when picked slightly earlier, it is also perfect for a vibrant, fresh rosé that is ideal when paired with antipasto, fresh seafood, or Asian dishes that carry a touch of chilli.

This is our fourth batch of "Rosedale Road" Sangio rosé . Bottled in October we are already enjoying it, but that youth is its charm. Drink it chilled, but not so cold that the lovely cherry and floral aromas are suppressed; then savour its gentle, savoury, textured finish.

Vineyard Notes
A very dry and warm start to summer resulted in our earliest vintage on record. The Rosedale Road block of Sangiovese was harvested in the late hours of the night when it was the coldest. A quick efficient pick and straight into the winery for processing to minimise field skin contact. A low yielding vintage in bunch numbers but large juicy berries being ideal for Rosé. This Sangio block has more canopy than our other block and allows for more shading to avoid sun damage.
Winemaker Notes
We take a ‘protective’ approach to making this wine: picked in the chill of night; gently pressed after a few hours of contact between juice and skins (which guarantees light but bright colour); fermented cool to dryness; and prepared relatively quickly for bottle. This all ensures that we have a wine that is a very pure expression of the variety and site.
